FOOD FOR LIFE

The Community of Sant’Egidio was born in Rome in 1968, the day after the Second Vatican Council, on the initiative of Andrea Riccardi who gathered his schoolmates to listen and put the Gospel into practice. Today it is a "public association of lay people of the Church" to which more than 60,000 people adhere, committed to communicating the Gospel and charity in Rome, Italy and 73 countries on the various continents, with simple and clear objectives: solidarity with the poor , in the evangelical spirit of a Church which is "the Church of all and particularly of the poor" (John XXIII); ecumenism, lived as friendship, prayer and the search for unity among Christians throughout the world; dialogue, indicated by the Second Vatican Council as a way of peace and collaboration between religions, but also as a way of life and as a method for reconciliation in conflicts. Food for life is a project that involves the agri-food world, in supporting the Dream Program for the fight against AIDS and Malnutrition in Africa with a simple mechanism: each producer chooses to link their own product to the project and to support the program Dream with a stamp that indicates the initiative.

DoReMi

Frantoio Tuscus, with the stamp on the DoReMi bottle, contributes to donating a violin to a child.

DoReMi, the first notes of the musical scale, is the name of a bottle of oil that is particular in shape, content and function. The purpose, for Frantoio Tuscus, is to contribute to the dissemination of the "music goes to school" project which was born from the inspiration of the maestro Josè Antonio Abreu who in 1975 in Caracas gave life to "el sistema", a model of musical education with free and open access for children from the poorest neighborhoods of the city, with the aim of helping them to become better people.

In Rome, the project is carried out by the Gabriele and Lidia Cusani Onlus Foundation which teaches music to the 640 children of the “Basile” elementary school in the Torre Angela district. Singing and playing in an orchestra from an early age improves social behavior because one's singularity must learn to relate to other singularities in a constructive way to pursue a common goal together: the harmony of the orchestra.

An orchestra that represents an example of a supportive whole where the members are interdependent and where the older ones guide the little ones, where the best help those less gifted: the culture of mutual support that relegates the culture of oppression to a corner. Making music together thus creates the conditions for the knowledge of the fundamental values of civil life.

"The entrepreneur of the poor" as Pope John XXIII defined Sister Nancy Pereira, an extraordinary woman who worked in India, her country, where women and children are the main victims of profound discrimination, physical and psychological violence they have origin mainly in the family environment. In 1993 Fides was born in Banagalore with the aim of supporting the social and cultural development of families in the villages and ensuring adequate education for children. Sister Nancy works for the literacy of children but also of adults, for the hygiene education of young mothers for their protection and that of their children, to help women to undertake a productive activity through the Fund for the poor . A job mainly dedicated to women that integrates with the long distance adoption program. All this is possible with the help of those around the world who believe in this project. Many in Italy have known and supported Fides thanks to the multimedia project that Rai created at the end of the 90s with the film "A simple gift", with the documentary "The courage of dignity" and with the book published by Rai Eri . With the airing of the film and the documentary on Raidue, the necessary funds were raised to contribute to the construction of a new school.

We at Frantoio Tuscus, who were lucky enough to meet Sister Nancy and were the authors of the multimedia project, participate in the long-distance adoptions program.

L'impegno per la cultura

There is no value in the economic success of a company if there is not also a commitment to cultural education. Because we are convinced that culture makes people better. And that companies can help to fulfill this task. At Frantoio Tuscus we have joined Heraion Creative Space, our cultural production company, with which, through cinema, music, theater, we try to convey suggestions and emotions.

The movie Pane e Olio, a fable about love and death, where oil and olive trees become a symbol of eternity and hope.

The opera Gabriele e la sua Rosa, written and directed by Maestro Carlo Crivelli, was created with the "Città Aperta" orchestra made up of musicians from all over Europe.

The theatrical project L'olio goes on stage, written by Fabrizio Mangoni, who, through words, music and technology, tells the oil, its mythical and religious values, its marriage with other products of the earth, its production and its effects on good health.
